We live in a fast-paced world where everything happens immediately and on a screen. Since my students are learning a content in a foreign language visuals are key. I use PowerPoint presentations, short videos, and online resources to enhance my teaching every day. I use an old projector and document camera to model the writing process, showcase student work, mathematics, science and more. In order to keep up with the demands of our curriculum, we need technology that helps students better understand and learn a new language. In the modern classroom, technology is as indispensable as pencil and paper. My current projector is in very bad shape, it is very dim (even with a new bulb), grainy and the focus does not work well. So too is my document camera. As the focus doesn't work well and the lens falls down if moved slightly during instruction. When I choose to use the technology, the classroom has to be very dark or the students have to be sitting very close to the screen. This means we have to close the shutters and huddle on the rug when the class would be much better off with the light on and sitting at their desks. Having the right tools in the classroom will help tremendously in achieving our goals and maximizing time.
