Students will be reading The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind in small group lit circles this quarter. Across the middle school this quarter there is a science focus in all disciplines in order to elevate our students' ability to engage in informational texts, problem-solve, and address authentic needs in the community. In reading, students will be leading their own lit circles several days a week with teacher support as needed. This gives students ownership in their learning and opportunities to guide discussions toward their own personal connections to the text. Finally, this book is at the students' 'just right' reading level. That is, the text is at a level in which they are able to feel successful reading and comprehending the material, but it also provides enough of a challenge that they will need teacher support and scaffolds to guide their learning along the way.
