My first grade students are in a Mandarin Foreign Language Immersion Program. The Mandarin Immersion Program is a 50/50 model; instruction is 50% in English and 50% in Mandarin, with both classes of students sharing a Mandarin-speaking teacher and an English-speaking teacher. Students spend half the day in Mandarin and half in English. The Mandarin Immersion Program is designed to help students achieve academic success in both English and Mandarin and become bilingual, bicultural, and biliterate. For English language arts, we use Readers and Writers Workshop within a balanced literacy framework. This is a child-centered, progressive program that focuses on differentiated instruction. Braddock is a Title I school providing high quality education to a diverse student body. Braddock houses three unique programs: Mandarin Foreign Language Immersion, Gifted Magnet, and Community School.
