I teach a preK/K inclusion class in a Title I school. A little more than half the students are on the autism spectrum while their classroom peers are regular ed preK students. Inclusion is wonderful because everyone benefits! The students on the spectrum see their friends line up, follow directions, and communicate interactively. The regular education students learn to be aware of and helpful to their friends. We have watched Sesame Street in order to be introduced to a puppet who has autism! Many of my learners can relate as they dislike loud noises and feel best when routines and procedures are clearly established. We really would benefit from having tablets in class so that we could access such sites as mobymax.com, frontrowed.com, and raz-kids. My students are the best! They deserve the best we can offer them.
