Our students are wonderful singers, musicians, performers, and artist, but we must also teach them life awareness skills about alcohol awareness and safe driving. As the Health teacher, I will teach all incoming 9th-grade students a required health credit that entails the teaching of The Georgia Department of Driver Services Alcohol & Drug Awareness Program (ADAP). This is a required program for all students to pass as part of the process to obtain their driver's license. I would like our students to have the same experience as other high school students in our state and district, by purchasing simulator goggles for our school. These goggles are used to simulate the intoxicating effects of alcohol on the body. Most schools have fund-raising and or athletic clubs as a means to fund these type of projects. At this time we do not yet have a means to purchase these very important teaching tools to bring awareness to this large 9th-grade class at this crucial time in their lives. I am asking for the purchase of 3 pair of the simulator goggles to be used each year in this class and as a annual drug awareness program prior to Prom season each year. With the goggles, students will be asked to complete real-life tasks while wearing the goggles to feel the true impairment effects that drugs and alcohol can have on the human body. Students will also have the opportunity to drive a golf cart while wearing the goggles and texting. As a result of completing the Alcohol Drug Awareness Program and using the Simulator goggles, our students will be equipped with information to make lifelong decisions to increase their life expectancy.
