Being from a rural community, my students often struggle to grasp the concept of the popular science fiction and fantasy genres. Rather than teaching with a textbook, I utilize novels to bring specific genres to life for my students. We read the novel together and work through many challenging activities! The addition of The Hunger Games (Book 1) to our classroom library will enable my class to take a journey to a dystopian world and discover the elements of fiction along the way! These novels will help continue to instill a love of reading in my students and create classroom moments that will engage and peak their interest in reading!
