I have students who speak the languages of the books I am requesting, as a first language. They need materials they can access and feel successful engaging with. Research shows that helping a student to stay proficient in their first language(s), helps them acquire literacy skills faster in other languages they are learning. These books will be invaluable in my classroom of diverse languages and cultures. I have two children, myself and know how much I wanted their elementary school years to be filled with enriching experiences with books, aiding in their love of learning. I just want the same experiences for my students but cannot afford it alone.
