Learning a new language is hard work, especially for those in a new environment or maybe even attending school for the first time. The process can make you feel like you don’t know how to do anything, like you have to learn everything you already knew all over again. But that’s not true. English Language Learners bring with them many language abilities that will make learning English a lot less scary and more enjoyable if they can only connect what they already know to what they want to know. And that’s where bilingual books come in – creating a sturdy bridge between languages, and keeping spirits high. Donations to this project will enable my students to engage in authentic reading, which will boost their enthusiasm for both reading and learning. My students have reading opportunities throughout the day and are asked to have books with them at all times, at school and at home. Supporting this project will put books on the shelves that could greatly accelerate their learning. Through a generous donation, you have the power to make students feel instantly at home in their learning community and you will keep alive that precious desire for more books that each child walks in the door with every morning.
