We are no longer preparing our students to work in assembly lines or in repetitive jobs that require very little critical thinking or problem-solving skills. Our students today need to have these important skills which can be developed through a Makerspace community in our school library. Makerspace areas are designed to engage students in these important 21st-century learning skills. Students will be able to collaborate, explore, think creatively, and solve authentic problems in a shared space with their peers. We have the room to start a Makerspace in our school library but we currently don't have a lot of materials needed to make it a great space for kids to get the hands-on, STEAM learning they need to be successful in the future. Many of the students that come through our doors love to read and are here to find a great, new book but I would love to have the materials to create a space to get more students excited about coming to the library to collaborate, explore, and discover using a variety of tools and materials!
