The Lucy Calkins Reading workshop has provided lists of books that are not only stimulating and engaging for students, but they are also challenging. This creates an atmosphere of learning that encourages critical thinking and application. One element of the workshop model is to have an extensive classroom library to ensure all students are able to connect with some type of literature to make his or her reading experience pleasurable. By offering a comprehensive classroom library, I am offering my students a whole new world to which they may never have been able to access. Not only will they develop a passion for reading, but they will also be able to experience wisdom and understanding that can open their minds to their futures.
