Before the summer starts my goal is to complete the unit on backyard games. The goal of the unit is to make students familiar with some fun games they can play with their family and friends with minimal equipment. The first part of any outside fun is having sound which we will use the Block Rocker speaker for. Impromptu dance parties are some of my students favorite ways to exercise outside.Every party needs a potato sack race. The students love to jump around in them and race their classmates. The hula hoops are versatile pieces of equipment. We can race through the hoops or use the beanbags and toss them in to a different colored hoop. Hand eye coordination is at the beginning of every game the students play outside. The ball/scoop set will help students "catch" the ball a little easier. The scoop will allow the students to have a little bit of accuracy with how they are catching the balls. Some of my students need a bigger ball to practice throwing with. Those students would be able to use the playground balls so that they have a better chance of completing the catch of a ball. A few years ago I heard about the disc in a barrel game. I would like to bring this to my students also. They throw a disc and try to get it in the barrel. This will help tremendously with their accuracy and distance throwing. All of these games will extend our physical education class into their family life, not to mention help work on their team work.
