While therapy and brief intervention are effective interventions, crisis can still occur. In my experience during a crisis event, students who hurt themselves are relieved the moment pressure from a hold is applied. The time-restricted hold protects the child, but also has the potential to traumatize them and impact a therapeutic relationship. If I can introduce a weighted vest to crisis cycles then my hope is it will decrease potential harm and increase opportunity for use of healthy coping skills. Our responsibility to educate our kids goes beyond academics and that is why I am asking for these weighted vests.
