My district was devastated with all the damage Harvey caused in our community as well as in our schools. We were displaced from our school and scattered around our whole district due to space limitations in the other schools. Some of the students started falling a little behind due to all these changes and difficult situations. My students want to learn; they are eager and enthusiastic, but they need the right materials and a more relaxed atmosphere in order to catch up with their peers. My students need file folder games, math center games, alphabet books in English and Spanish, Dot and Learn Journal sets, and other Literacy and Math games in order to catch up and reach their full potential. The materials I requested are all targeted towards skills that the students should have mastered at this point, but haven't done so yet. I will work in small groups (2-3 students) and focus on the skills their are lacking. Some groups will be working on letter recognition with the alphabet books, tactile letters, and file folder games. Other groups will be working on rhyming with the rhyming houses. Other need help in their Math skills and will be using the counting games, the Math file folder games and other materials. I also have groups that are working on their skills identifying begging sound, and they will use the letter/word locks. Different groups need different skills and different materials. All students can learn, we as teachers just need to find the right way to teach them!
