More and more kids are being diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. This makes it very difficult to teach in the "average" classroom. I would love to give these students a better opportunity to be able to get focused and stay focused. I plan on using a variety of different seating options to increase engagement and maintain attention in my classroom. Motion allows the brain to be engaged. When sitting on a stability ball, a glow stool, or a wobble cushion, students will be in motion. Since the student's body is in motion, their brain will be able to stay focused on what is being taught. Over half of my class is very active and always moving. I will take away the hard desk chair and replace it with one of these motion centered seating options (The glow stool, the trideer stability ball, and the stability wobble cushion). In order to remain balanced while sitting, the body will instinctively and continually engage core muscle groups. Constant movement is required in order to stay seated. And that movement, however slight, helps them focus. I can't wait to see how a little stability can help improve my classroom!
