Learners will use owl pellets to investigate and hypothesize about energy transfer. Students will receive a hands-on experience that will help expand their understandings of why animals eat and how this interaction affects the environment/habitat in which these animals thrive. In later energy lessons, learners will have the opportunity to engage in productive struggle, make real-life decisions and errors and learn from them by redesigning any failures in design. Learners will learn more about energy when they build an electromagnet and more about energy transfer through designing, creating, and building a model car. This productive struggle is integral to understanding that mistakes help us learn and make things better.
