I am asking for help in purchasing a carpet for my students to sit on in our classroom. Our floor is tile, and very cold during the winter months. Most of my students come to school lacking appropriate clothing to keep warm and the carpet would make the floor a more welcoming place to learn. Research shows that basic needs must be meet before a student can learn. There will be many academic and creative ways we can use the carpet to learn in addition to the most basic need of warmth while on the floor. The carpet I am requesting also has the alphabet: upper and lower, shapes, and different colors on it. Students will be able to engage in different games using the carpet. For example, I can ask students to sit on the letter their name starts with, sit on their favorite color, and find the shape with four sides. The possibilities are endless.
