My students need cause and effect toys to participate with items in a meaningful way. Many of the students are experiencing motor deficits or other impairments that make everyday items difficult to access. We would like for all students to have meaningful experiences in our classroom and sensory materials can cause great joy and learning! A sensory wall would be eye level for a student with visual impairments, and also allow for easy participation with many different kinds of items. This sensory wall will be a wood pegboard attached to a wall. The items I have requested: musical instruments, metal locks, a car ramp, tactile items, and more. These items will be attached to the pegboard in different ways, so the students can interact with them but they cannot take them off the wall. This helps with the safety of the children and the items. All of the items include sensory aspects, whether it be noise, lights, etc. Sensory aspects are important for students with vision or hearing loss. This wall will also be intriguing and get students interested in interacting with objects. I would love to make a wall that stays in the early childhood special education classroom for students to engage in each day.
