My school is a public high school in Boston, Massachusetts that has a strong history of discussion-based classes and an explicit emphasis on social justice. Every year, our humanities curriculum is organized around one essential question. This coming year, the question is "Who Built America?" 75 percent of our students are eligible for free and reduced lunch. 38 percent are African-American, 47 percent are Latino, 9 percent are Caucasian, and 4 percent are Asian-American. I teach three sections of humanities- a course that includes content from English, history, sociology, psychology, and economics. My students are in 9th, 10th, and 11th grades.
