We are a Title 1 school, and most of our students can't afford to buy gifts for their children during the Holidays. Here, many special services are provided to our students to assure that they are equipped with the necessary skills to become caring and nurturing mothers, including on campus child care, group therapy, character development, and play labs in which their children participate. One thing that we can't always assure is that these teen mothers will be able to give their children meaningful gifts during the Holidays, but with these blank books, each student will have the opportunity to write and illustrate a Holiday-themed children's book to "gift" to their children. This project will allow them to apply many Language Arts skills and standard objectives. It will also allow them to give their children one of the greatest gifts ever: the gift of literacy.
