A day in Mrs. Hughes' classroom is always an adventure. It is a melting pot of learning styles from struggling learners to the highly gifted. We are a Title l school that is overwhelmed with meeting the academic and personal daily needs within our community. My students come from a rural area and low socioeconomic backgrounds, though they come to school ready and eager to learn. I teach a large number of students who need access to enrichment opportunities beyond what our county is able to provide. One of my goals is to increase their reading proficiency to help them succeed in school and in life. In turn, I hope to provide learning experiences that will develop a passion for learning beyond the classroom. In our room, we use a mixture of flexible grouping to promote academic success in reading skills and mathematical thinking.
