I teach at a Title One School where approximately 91 percent of my students are on free or reduced lunch. Due to the decreased funding in the school district I have a very limited budget for my classroom. Therefore, in order to get things for my classroom I must pay for these items out of my pocket. Many of my students do not have books at home to read. I teach a group of high readers who I find it very hard to challenge with the books that I currently have in my classroom. I do have a program in place in my classroom where student may check out books that they take home and return when they are done. The books I have requested will, I am sure, be very popular books for this program. My students parents deeply appreciate that their students my borrow books from my classroom as many do not have library cards or can afford transportation to our local library.
