"It's called a rhinoceros and it originates in Africa. It looks like that because the horns on his face are used as protection from predators!" I find myself answering these types of questions every single day. It's because my students have not been provided the necessary materials to be able to explore the various wild animals surrounding our environment, much less a different continent. My students acquire knowledge by visiting distant habitats through the pages of books! These books will allow my students to step inside the grassland, or the arctic habitats and learn about the animals that live there. They will learn why jack rabbits have extremely long ears or why polar bears have black colored skin. Without these books my students will not get to learn about them and why it is important for our world to protect them from extinction!
