We as teachers and schools have tough job of keeping kids engaged and entertained 24/7. One such effective method is giving kids choice and voice. They pick where they sit and by whom. The more appealing the environment, the more inviting. Plus, this prepares them for real world career experiences where they will work in groups in all types of settings. By having seating that provides comfort, flexibility, and choice for students, it is our hope that students will gain trust and comfort in the classroom environment we have created. The seating we are looking to provide students with will help them to socialize in different settings around the room, and will help with lessons for teachers too. Some seating will be used to help hold small groups that may be student or teacher led, while other seating will be used for student independent work time. It is truly our hope that this creative, flexible way of engaging students in the classroom will help provide positive learning outcomes and student perspective about school.
