I love listening to audio books and even more I love sharing this enthusiasm with my students. My students are young, they’re first graders and they’re just learning how to read. A listening center gives them the freedom to hear reading and make connections with reading by being able to follow along and “read” the words with the narrator. It introduces students to books above their reading level as well as new vocabulary. It serves as a read aloud model for my students, it teaches critical listening, and can provide a bridge for discussion with their parents or other siblings.
