Learning centers are an important part of a balanced kindergarten classroom. If implemented correctly, learning centers can be a perfect place to promote growth in all areas. While the teacher supports a small group in guided reading, writing, or mathematics, other small groups can engage in learning activities independently. These small group activities must be engaging enough for children so they will not feel the need to leave their activity and distract others. By donating to our project, you will not only support the individual needs of these students, but you will make learning fun and engaging for them. The activities I have chosen not only support the children’s reading, writing, and math development but are also created to engage children in a variety of levels. For example, the literacy learning centers from Lakeshore, such as, sequencing stories, letter/sound recognition, rhyming sounds, and beginning sounds will all support each child's development in all areas of literacy. From the children who still need help with recognizing their letters, to the children who are already beginning to recognize words. The math learning centers and materials listed also support their development in mathematics. 10 frames are a huge part of the math curriculum and can be utilized in many ways. Children will be be separated into groups by their learning abilities, with activities that are challenging and fun.
