I work as an assistive technology specialist in the Springfield Public School district. We work with special education students from Pre K to age 22 vocational using technology to make accademics, language and learning accessible to students in over 60 schools across our district. This year we are utilizing 3D printing technology to bring a tactile component to stories, communication symbols and other learning activities. we are off to a good start, however We would like to expand and add a second printer helping us keep up with the need for these materials. Use of a 3D printer helps make giving my students consistent access to tactile supports possible. We are making tactile books, communication tiles, and manipulatives related to lessons. . Giving them hands on access to tactile objects can help them access the curriculum in a meaningful way.
