One area my students struggle the most is in literacy. The majority of my students read below grade level and have no interest in reading for enjoyment. Currently, my school does not have enough novels for each student. Students are forced to share novels and are unable to take the book home to read independently. I would like to purchase the novels, "The Giver" and "The Outsiders" so that each student will have a copy to read during our novel study. Every student would be able to work at their own pace and practice fluent reading without distraction. With more engaging novels and lessons, my students will be more willing to take accountability and ownership of their learning.
