I teach at a themed middle school in the STEM Academy. I have 100 students that come from a wide variety of cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds with 50% that qualify for free/reduced-price lunch, and 40% coming from a home where English is not the primary language. It is these differences that drive so many of our classroom activities and discussions. From the first day of school, I refer to my students as "historians" because that's who they are; they strive to think critically about everything they encounter and work to develop the necessary skills to communicate their findings with the world. Through inquiry driven historical investigations, students learn about bias and perspective, and how to interpret information that they see in the real world. I am confident that they are developing the skills that will allow them to be successful in every aspect of their future lives.
