As a school counselor, my "classroom" means the entire school- 6th and 7th graders in a public STEAM school in Asheville, North Carolina. As a second year school counselor, I am still very much building up a library, a collection of supplies to give students, and the materials to create other resources for students. MNSA's counseling department implements a comprehensive school counseling program, the mission of which is to support and empower each student, with respect toward the diverse backgrounds, needs, and experiences represented within the student body. The program's curriculum is designed to be engaging and catalyze growth within the domains of career/college readiness, academic success, and social-emotional skill. Using small groups, classroom lessons, individual planning, and staff collaboration, I aim to support each child's development into a happy, empathetic leader, guided by their own North Star.
