An escape room game is a physical adventure game in which players solve a series of puzzles and riddles using clues, hints, and strategy to complete the objectives at hand. In my classroom, these puzzles will revolve around the math we are currently tackling. An escape room game makes math come alive for students! The game is timed and they can feel their hearts pounding as they work their way through hints, until they solve the final puzzle. Blacklight pens and UV flashlights can communicate hidden clues; locked boxes and bags can be unlocked by solving difficult Algebra problems; even seemingly innocuous objects such as the Arizona Tea diversion safe will contain additional information that will allow my students to "escape the Algebra room". The materials can be used and reused in many different configurations, making this project one my students can enjoy for years to come.
