This project is all about the literacy. We will be reading the novel Uglies in class together and completing activities based on the novel such as double journal entries, sequencing, and character build. This novel will supplement a required reading program that often bores the students. Having a novel that interests the students will improve the students' enjoyment of the class. The project is to help students advance their literacy skills, but also to keep them interested in reading. I work in a school where more then half of the students are low-income and do not have the funding to go out and buy books that we need for advanced reading.
