My students desire group work. We have been blessed with a larger classroom and have been able to scrounge up eight lab tables on which to work, but the tables have scratched surfaces and we have no chairs! We'd like to have stools so that students can relax while working and yet have the flexibility to move their seating around to work with others. We will be sanding the tables and purchasing dry erase paint for them so students can communicate their ideas in a fun, exciting way. When students work collaboratively, they learn from each other. In an Algebra classroom, this is a must. Flexible seating and a surface on which to communicate their understanding would help foster this learning.
