Even when extremely engaged, many of my young, energetic learners need an opportunity to move in order to remain productive. Providing students with seat cushions and kick bands that provide sensory input and allow them to wiggle will enable them to focus and stay on task. Your generous donation will provide students the opportunity to fully engage and focus during classroom instruction, and test-taking. "Balance Discs" can be an effective seating option for kids who have a difficult time focusing or staying put in their seats. These helpful self-regulation seating devices provide subtle movement (gentle bouncing and/or rocking) while still sitting in the chair in a safe way. This movement makes it easier for many children and adults to focus in the classroom. "Bouncy Bands" also allow students to move while working quietly. They help increase students' time on task and helps high energy workers fidget without distracting others. Sometimes students feel overwhelmed and need to take a break. The cool down corner is a corner of my classroom where a student can go when experiencing frustration or emotional distress that is interfering with their ability to learn. The station is already equipped with materials for students to write or draw about their feelings, posters with strategies to calm down, and books about feelings and emotions. Providing fidget and sensory items will allows students to also release their frustration through movement, so they can quickly rejoin the group and return to productive learning.
