This project will bring new books and literacy resources to my students to help them find books that excite them and build their reading skills. All of these resources will go to expand my classroom library, a cosy corner of my room that students gather in each day for independent reading. I am expanding the library to include more books that have characters who reflect the identities and backgrounds of my students. The best way to become a better reader is to read more, and these new books will give students the opportunity to read about characters who have shared some of their life experiences. Every book in the library is a spark that could light up a student's love of reading. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind -- I am buying books that students have requested or that are similar to the most popular titles on my shelves. The project also includes other literacy supplies to strengthen students' engagement with the books. These resources include audio book downloads, post-its for taking notes in library books, reading journals, and resources for teaching students comprehension strategies.
