There has never been a more important time in education for teachers to understand and apply how a child's brain develops and relates to learning and the emotional social health. Our students are entering our classrooms with stress, adversity, and trauma from outside the classroom. These events derail our student's learning and compromise brain heath and development and impede motivation and engagement in the classroom. If we give our students sensory breaks and tools to regulate their emotions and behavior, and engage their brains they will be ready to learn. By implementing "Amygdala kits" with items like theraputty and sensory brushes into my kindergarten through fifth grade classrooms, my students would be allowed to reduce their stress, voluntarily control their behavior, and promote successful cognitive function. Basically self regulating and resetting their brains to be ready to learn.
