The multicultural books, crayons, markers, and paper will help me build strong relationships with my students and families. By having the multicultural books that reflect the students that I teach in front of me, it will allow me to get to know their culture better which will improve positive relationships as the school year begins! Student outcome will be positive, because the students our seeing themselves in books that I will read to them. This will increase their confidence and courage as community of learners. When students see themselves and others that look different from them, it will also teach respect and kindness towards one another which will help them develop important social skills. Kindergartners are creators, so having the art supplies will allow them to draw pictures that represent themselves and their families. For example, a kindergartner can tell a story about what they did with their family and go back and draw or paint pictures of their personal narrative story using the multicultural paper, crayons, paint, and markers. This give kindergartners a voice and it allows them to feel important in the classroom. The result of this will bring confidence, curiosity, and exploration in a fun way. The first six weeks of school is all about building trusting relationships with students and their families. By having the multicultural books and art supplies at hand, it will be a smooth transition from home to school for the kindergartners if they see themselves in the books that I read to them. It will make them feel comfortable, safe, and important in an engaging and fun way.
