For some of my students sometimes the normal day to day just gets too overwhelming. Many of them have trouble expressing their feelings and get upset when others around them don't understand. I want to create a comfortable space in our classroom that will give my students a place to go to and calm down when the world just gets too big. My wish is to place comforting tools and effective sensory activities in this corner to give them something to focus all of their energy on. I want my students to know it is okay to have these feelings and that we will work together to find a way to best put them back in control of their emotions. I want all of my students to be effective learners and this is the step we need as a class in the right direction. The requested wobble cushions, pillows and foam mat will give them a comfortable place to sit and reflect. I am also asking for a variety of fidget toys. Each sensory toy is made to cater to the students concentration and attention by allowing their brains to filter out extra sensory information. It gives the students a chance to bring in their focus from being out of their control and into a select item. Which in turn will allow them to calm down and regain control of their environment.
