While 80% of our diversely populated student body comes from low socioeconomic backgrounds, our band students work hard to overcome many obstacles and achieve success. The majority of our kids live in single parent homes where they have responsibilities beyond their age level. Several of our students were impacted by Hurricane Harvey and some of them are still in temporary housing. Over half of our band students are borrowing school owned instruments and we are constantly trying to find resources to keep up with our growing demands. Despite hurdles like this our band program has doubled in the last few years, and the kids have worked to earn sweepstakes trophies and other honors and awards. We are very excited to give these students the opportunity to belong to such a positive organization that will impact their lives and bring them experiences that they otherwise would not have the opportunity to enjoy.

About my class
