I want to improve my AP students' language and character analysis skills. Ibsen's plays, A Doll's House and Hedda Gabler, would allow my students to analyze the language, the characters, societal norms and expectations, and what happens with female characters who subvert those norms. I would be able to cover so many critical universal themes with these plays. Fellow AP Lit teachers have expressed their joy at how effective Ibsen's plays have helped their students recognize the complexity of language and characters. The plays are shorter than Shakespeare's and have the same level of complexity, especially with the subtlety that Ibsen employs.
