After doing some research, I found many ways in which flexible seating will be able to help my students be more attentive, engaged, and learn to better collaborate with their peers. The first benefit to flexible seating is the ability to give them a choice. In the classroom students are proven to learn best when they have control over their environment. Flexible seating allows them to decide where to work and change position as needed. Flexible seating such as Wooble Glow stools, Flex-Space Comfy Couch, and the Flex-Space Collaborative Floor Work Space Bundle, will also provide the students with the ability to move. Students become distracted or disruptive when seated in the same position for such an extended amount of time. Flexible seating will provide my students the ability to bounce, lean, fidget, stand, and sit to suit their needs. Last, traditional desk can make students territorial over their space and supplies. I like for my students to know that our classroom is our home, therefore, we collaborate and with others. Students learn better when they have a chance to work together rather than being isolated from one another. Flexible seating allows students to easily pair up, work in small groups, and engage in class discussions. Like it has been said many times before, “The future of the world is in my classroom today”. I am lucky enough to get to touch our future every day, so when I learn about new practices that will benefit kids, I wholeheartedly jump in.
