Technology is increasingly becoming a regular part of speech and language therapeutic interventions. Children are growing up using technology naturally, and have more incentive to participate and target their communication and literacy goals when engaged using technology. Plus, apps are fun and visually supportive! iPads have a slew of evidence-based applications available (such as Plan it, Do it, Check It Off; Google Drive; or Articulation Station) that help improve specific cognitive and language skills. These skills then easily transfer to the classroom, promoting functional communication and eventually, independence in using the apps or developing their skills. Here's how it works - students will learn to use the app and then use it to train specific language-based skills. These skills, when engrained, generalize into classroom activities, ultimately increasing access to curriculum and improving test scores. And the best part? Students can download the apps onto their own devices to promote carryover of skills at home!
