The books on this project are a part of the list of books needed to accompany each lesson created for the "Behavior Basics Book Club" by @autismadventures. There are a total of 60 lessons and activities accompanied by 60 different books teaching different behavior and social skills. These books support the teaching of the basics behind socially acceptable behavior with regards to classroom rules, school rules, student behaviors, and social skills. Many of the skills focused on in these books are areas of deficits my students are facing. I am lucky to teach these kiddos everyday. While it is not math, or writing, that we focus on each morning, our Social Skills lessons are the backbone of the program and classroom I teach in. We learn various social, behavioral, and emotional skills needed to help improve each student's skills to gain independence in the general education classroom. They are bright eyed and eager to learn everyday when walking into my classroom. Our Social Skills time everyday is imperative to their future successes and these books will not only help directly teach each lesson but will be read throughout days and years to come. Having access to fiction and nonfiction books is key for many classrooms; however, in my classroom, having social skills books available helps to reinforce previously learned lessons while providing introductions to future lessons.
