I teach in a self-contained special education classroom serving in a large, rural elementary school with 75% of our students receiving free or reduced lunch. My class is composed of students ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade. My students are a wonderful bunch of kids who struggle in many areas, particularly with basic math and problem solving skills. As hard as they work each day, I worry because I know they will be under prepared for our state assessment. In an effort to help ensure our students are getting the best that we can offer them, I cross teach with another self-contained special education teacher.
