I am a kindergarten to second grade special education teacher. All of my students have a learning and/or attention disability. There are a few with an emotional/social disability as well. I would like to create a classroom to have a calming effect, support the learning for my students, and help produce good behavior. The gray carpet, FlexSpace Balance balls, and Comfy Pillows will promote learning in a new way that is based on student choice and individual needs. The gray carpet and the color of the balance balls will help create a calming space, while the colors of the pillows will encourage creativity. The flexible seating will allow my students to keep moving, but not be a distraction for the other students. Studies have shown that classrooms that use flexible seating are more productive. Students are able to choose the seating that is most comfortable for them, which leads to better learning. Flexible seating allows small movements for children who can not stay in a traditional chair and desk. Movement aids in focusing and processing information. Flexible seating promotes a better sense of community, more opportunities to share, take turns, and work in different groups/setting over the straight lines.
