The first grade is where students truly immerse themselves in reading and literature. The students currently have an inadequate number of books to choose from to hold their interest. Holding their interest is a key motivational factor in classroom learning and in independent learning—the thing that cause a child to pick up a book and to continue reading. We need a complete and varied library at multiple levels so they have choice during reading instruction. A varied classroom library provides the interest for reading and the sharing of ideas with their friends, classmates, and family and friends at home. My children are begging for the stimulus good books can provide for entertainment, knowledge, and the growth of ideas. All children, especially mine, need the excitement and information books can supply to make their imaginations flourish.
