I am seeking funds to help provide alternative seating options (Zuma rockers) to meet the needs of students in my math classroom. Alternative seating has been shown to help students increase attention, focus and learning in the classroom. Simple in-class activities can boost performance. Studies show that children who participate in short bouts of physical activity within the classroom demonstrate more on-task behavior which lead to better learning outcomes. This is especially true of our students who are diagnosed with ADHD, sensory processing disorders, and anxiety. Zuma Rockers allow for appropriate movement breaks for students within a classroom. A constant "wobble" engages muscles and provides an opportunity to release excess energy.  The rocking motion allows movement input for the nervous system, specifically the vestibular system that can be calming and organizing for the brain. This type of input will help students pay attention in a subtle, non-distracting way.
