Our school psychologist will be working with our class to enhance the students' self awareness and control over their emotional reactions in a calm environment. The garden will provide opportunities to care for plants and enjoy nature's beauty which creates an engaging environment for students to learn more about their emotions. This will hopefully transition into their home environments as well. Many of our children come from impoverished environments where they don't always feel safe. These situations often spill into school and impact their learning. The opportunity to go into nature, reset their emotions, and feel good about caring for living things will provide them opportunities to learn about their own emotions and enhance their education. We need a variety of garden tools including soil scoops, hummingbird feeder, pruning shears, and decorative items including a wind chime, ladybug stepping stones, a birdhouse and more. The garden tools will allow students to spend time working in and maintaining the garden. This will allow students to feel a sense of ownership in the garden and help them invest in its efficacy. The materials listed will help create an engaging, calming environment for the students.
