Having quality recorders for our 4th graders to use during music class will provide them an experience unlike any other! Learning the recorder provides students a way to practice reading music on a staff while using an instrument versus singing. They are processing the note name, the fingering, the rhythm, on their air, the steady beat while engaging both sides of their brain! The recorder is the only instrument many of our students will ever play. By providing these students an opportunity to play a quality recorder, they can experience taking care of an instrument, practicing, finger coordination, breath control as well as many other fundamentals that could help them on a wind instrument in their future. Playing an instrument helps enhance memory, spatial reasoning, literacy, finger coordination, and can help students interpret/express emotions. By learning recorder in a classroom setting, they will also have the experience of playing with an ensemble and working as a team while enjoying creating music together.
