My students need to read but there are only a few books for them in my classroom. Our school could not afford a library for my classroom so a fellow teacher lent me her personal library. Unfortunately, these books are too hard for most of my students. My students are hungry for stories but I only have one book for levels A through D, three books for levels E and F, and so on. I want the leveled library books so that my students will have options that are just right for their reading abilities! Favorite characters and topics, technology, and "just right" books create a wonderful atmosphere for reading that kids want to be a part of. Many of my students take books that are too hard for them because they enjoy characters like Captain Underpants or subjects like dinosaurs. High Interest/Low Readability (adding beloved characters to books that are at lower reading levels) and nonfiction books on topics they love will motivate my students to want to read! Tablets are an important part of school because technology is the future. My students need to know how to interact with computers to be successful in the world today. I do not have the resources to buy tablets for the class but I brought in my own iPad for them to read stories on and my kids love it; they fight over who gets to use it! I have seen how the iPad really engages students who are struggling readers so that they don't give up on reading. Students can use the tablets with headphones to listen to, read, and interact with digital books! By donating to this project, you are giving my kids the chance to be successful in school so that they can achieve their dreams.
