The ukulele is an easy instrument to play and will offer my students an instant sense of accomplishment that will boost their confidence and self-esteem. With fifteen ukuleles, there will be one ukulele for every two students, giving them the opportunity to interact with each other while learning how to play. In addition to learning music skills, playing the ukulele will also help my students with reading skills, fine motor skills, and help them to gain a sense of community within the music classroom. Playing the ukulele is a social activity that will teach my students about the pleasure of playing music with, and for, others. Introducing my second graders to the ukulele will instill in them a love for playing an instrument, and will motivate them to continue on their musical journey in the future.
